Dent removal PDR

Dent removal PDR

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is a method that enables the removal of dents and dings from a vehicle's body without leaving any trace of repair, thus preserving the original paint. The best part is that this process often doesn't require dismantling individual body parts, making it a cost-effective and time-saving solution.

Tips

  • Removing dents caused by hail requires both specialized equipment and knowledge. To ensure a successful outcome and avoid the need for body shop or paintwork, it's best to have this dent removal service performed by a professional workshop.

  • For a single dent, the repair can be completed in as little as 30 minutes. However, if there are multiple dents, it may take considerable time to work on each one. The total duration of the procedure can range from a few hours to longer, depending on the extent of the damage.

  • Opting for PDR can significantly reduce the time needed to repair minor damages, such as parking lot dings, allowing the car owner to have the vehicle back within a few hours instead of several days.

  • Beware of DIY methods for dent removal; following unreliable advice might lead to worsening the situation.

Scope of services

  • Initially, a technician will thoroughly inspect the area around the dent(s) to determine if the repair is feasible and provide a cost estimate.

  • Based on the size and number of dents on the body panels, as well as their accessibility, the specialist will select the appropriate tools and technique for the repair. Access to the backside of the panel is crucial for certain PDR methods.

  • Before and after the repair procedure, the vehicle's body should be thoroughly cleaned.

In most cases, removing these dents does not require disassembling the body elements and subsequent repainting, making PDR a suitable and cost-effective solution.

PDR's Limitations: The Importance of Intact Paintwork

One limitation of PDR is that it is most effective when there is no damage to the paint, such as cracks or chips. Additionally, deep scratches may also hinder the process. In cases where the paint is compromised, more traditional repair methods may be required.

PDR Methods: Hot Glue Pulling and Wire Method

When a car damaged by hail enters a workshop, the technician will first inspect the affected areas to assess the damage and determine if access to the backside of the panel is possible. Based on this assessment, two primary PDR methods can be employed:

• For integral body parts like the roof or fender, hot glue pulling might be used. In this method, special tabs are attached to the external surface of the body, and then, with the help of a special hot glue gun, the technician gently pulls the dented area back into shape.

• For elements with accessible backside, such as the door panel, the technician may opt for the wire method. Using a special tool, the dents can be pushed out from behind, without leaving any marks on the paint.

PDR vs. Hot Water Dent Removal

Many drivers inquire about hot water dent removal, where the dented area is poured with boiling water and then reshaped with a dent puller or a suction cup. While this method may work to some extent on plastic body elements, it can be harmful to the car's paint, plastic trim, and lamp covers, as they are not designed to withstand sudden temperature changes.

In general, DIY dent removal methods are not recommended, as they require professional knowledge and equipment. An attempt at self-repair may lead to paint damage and potentially necessitate additional repairs by professionals.

PDR Cost

The cost of PDR service largely depends on the number and severity of dents. On average, the price for a single dent removal ranges from 50 to 100 PLN, while a series of dents may cost between 100 to 300 PLN. For more extensive damages due to collisions or hail, the cost may vary from 500 to 800 PLN.
